A Socially Distant Vacation in the Poconos! - Hello Olivia Photography

Shawnee-on-the-Delaware, Pennsylvania is a place that is very near and dear to my heart. This has been our family vacation destination since I was Amelia’s age.

Without fail for the last 40 years, we have religiously gone on our annual pilgrimage to Shawnee in the Poconos. First as babies with our parents, and now as adults with our own babies.

It’s a magical place that brings us as close to our childhood as possible. It was also a place that my father loved more than any other, so being there always reminds us of him and the wonderful times we spent there as a family.

You can imagine our disappointment when we got the call that Shawnee was closed - as was basically everything else in the tri-state area. The kids were understandably devastated - Olivia moped around for weeks (and then we also had to cancel Disney in July…. it was DARK times guys - D A R K).

We had a glimmer of hope when bookings started to become available, and on July 6th, 2020 - Shawnee officially reopened and we were there, with all the kids in tow. It was definitely interesting to be at a vacation resort while maintaining social distance - but the kids didn't seem to mind at all, and the Delaware River is large enough to keep everyone accomidated with enough space to keep everyone safe.
