Thirty Minutes in the Life - June 2020
Summer is finally here!!! The weather has been pretty perfect the last few days but Saturday was hot and humid. To cool off a little, I took the littlest kid to Sand Street Beach in Stony Brook to take a swim and explore. Once we got there, you could see a storm was beginning to roll in from Connecticut which made for some very pretty skies.
This beach has two inlets. The first is very shallow and perfect for Amelia to splash and play in. She has no fear of the water and went right in, clothes and all. I don’t even bother with bathing suits anymore because there isn’t much of a point!
On the other side of the inlet is West Meadow Beach. The little cottage that sits here is Gamecock Cottage. Built in 1876, it was used for storage of oars and rowboats. If this is what a storage building looked like, I can only imagine what the actual home looked like a hundred and fifty years ago!
The inlet is filled with shell fish, crabs and aquatic plants. It’s actually really cool to look at. We spotted a cute little baby crab just hanging out under the surface.
There were a ton of Canadian Geese at the beach today and Amelia was in love. For reasons unknown, she would try to run to them and yell “MOOOOOOOOO”. Geese typically get aggressive around here, but they mostly paid her no mind.
As the rain started coming down, we had to say our goodbyes to all our new beach friends!
