The Daily Project - September 2024
I don’t know about you, but the last three weeks have been an absolute whirlwind. Between school starting, dance classes resuming, scouts, homework, and all the other delightful things we moms have to juggle, it’s a wonder we’re still standing (or at least managing to stand after the third cup of coffee).
And if that’s not enough, let’s sprinkle in the joy of keeping the house semi-clean, eating something that resembles a vegetable, and pretending we're super moms with all the energy in the world. Yep, it's a circus – and I’m both the ringmaster and the juggler.
Now, here’s where things get fun as a photographer – I’ve been snapping daily photos of my kids through all this chaos. You know, to really savor those special moments. Like when they forgot where they put their sneakers 2 seconds before the bus comes or when I totally forgot about meet the teacher night because I had “just one more thing to finish at work”. Let me tell you, nothing says “motherhood” quite like trying to wrangle a half-dressed kid into a car to get eye injection medicine at Target while balancing a camera to capture that perfect ‘on-the-go’ shot.
Despite the insanity, I’m a firm believer that these are the moments worth remembering… it’s just a big beautiful mess.. Its dirty faces, mismatched socks, the backpacks flung everywhere. These daily photos remind me to slow down, even for a second, and appreciate this wild ride. Because in the blur of schedules, there are snippets of joy, like explaining to my kid and nephew what a PAYPHONE IS or the pure happiness of finding “a perfect fall leaf” according to Amelia.
So, to all my photo friends and cameramoms who are living in this same whirlwind, I see you. Whether you’re photographing every moment like me or just trying to survive, know that you’re doing an incredible job. And if all else fails, remember: chaos is photogenic. Embrace it, document it, and one day, we’ll look back and laugh. Or at least, laugh through the tears.
Until then, keep snapping, keep juggling, and maybe one day we’ll get through the week without tripping over a pile of laundry or missing our last childs kindergarten open house. (But let’s not get too crazy with the wishful thinking.)
