Long Live the Beach!
I can’t begin to tell you how excited I am that the beaches are finally back open on Long Island. With all the playgrounds and outdoor spaces being closed or severely limited due to Corona, my kids have literally parked their butts at home these past three months. Talk about cabin fever!
With the start of Memorial Day, the beaches have reopened and we RAN like crazy people to the most remote and unused beaches I could think of. The kids loved it so much, we went to a different beach EVERY DAY of the three day weekend.
First up was the back end of Cedar Beach in Mt Sinai. It was unfortunately way more crowded than I expected, so we couldn't stay as long as we hoped, but still made the best of it. Luckily Ralph’s is on the way home. Nothing makes things better than Italian ices.
The next day, we took a long drive out to Hallock State Park and that was exactly what we were looking for.
This beach is awesome. Quiet, remote and easy enough to walk to.
This was Amelia’s first time expirance at the beach. The north shore of Long Island is pretty rocky - the beaches out east are even more so. She wasn’t the biggest fan of this, but the gentle waves of the sound are definitely much preferred over the those on south shore. She was not afraid of the water and walked around a little. I need to remind myself to take a trip to Montauk to let her see the difference and make her own choice on which shore is her favorite.
The next day we took a trip out to Shoreham for a few hours.
We didn’t bring our suits this go around, but the kiddos didn’t seem to mind in the slightest. They both throughly and completely enjoyed themselves. Meals stuck mostly to the Jetty and played with the rocks, but Olivia jumped right in. This kid always ends up in the water.
Coming up this weekend, we have EVEN MORE beach plans - so many many many more days of fun in the sun are in our future.
