Wrapping up the week - Hello Olivia Photography | Long Island Family Photographer, Middle Island NY
Hey!
As we wrap up the week, I’ve found that capturing everyday moments—whether it’s celebrating my daughter Olivia’s birthday or just documenting the usual mundane activities—has become a heartfelt part of my routine. It's pretty crazy that I’ve been working on my daily project on and off for 12 or so years!!!
So many moms out there feel that daily picture taking is a daunting task - but it doesn't have to be! The beauty of this project lies in its simplicity. You make your own rules and give yourself grace. Each day, I pick up whatever camera I have on hand, whether it’s my trusty Sony A74 or my iphone. The key is having any camera available; it makes it so much easier to seize those fleeting, authentic moments that make life so special.
Take Olivia’s birthday, for instance. It wasn’t about setting up elaborate shoots or planning the perfect shot. Instead, it was about capturing our yearly photo as she blew out the candles on her cake - surrounded by her friends and family. These are the moments that truly matter, and having a camera readily available ensures that I can preserve them effortlessly. I think I took about 5 photos in quick succession and called it day… then enjoyed some cake and ice cream!
On quieter days, when it’s just the usual and sometimes monotonous routine — getting ready for school, grocery shopping, or the Sunday trip to get bagels and egg sandwiches in Patchogue — my camera is there to document it. I literally throw it in my bag. It’s not about creating perfect, polished images, but about capturing the real, unscripted beauty of daily life.
So if you’re thinking about starting a daily photography project or just want to keep track of your own special moments, remember: having a camera within reach is the secret to easily documenting and cherishing those everyday memories. It’s amazing how even the most mundane moments can turn into treasured keepsakes with just a click of the shutter.
