Lighting the night

Daylight savings - the #1 Killer of most 365 projects. You get so close, but you’re still so far…

Sigh. November 1st is the worst. I dread it everysingletime. While I actually don’t mind the colder fall and winter months, I HATE that there is zero daylight to spare for me. I’m out of the house from dawn to dusk, so there is zero natural light to shoot with. Wahhhh.

Over the years, I’ve come to accept and almost embrace the four months of night shooting. This year however is harder. I’m tired. My little spark of creativity is buried somewhere because of lack of sleep, working and running around after two busy girls…. but enough excuses.

Here’s a look at the past few weeks.

I took a few icelight portraits:

Tried to figure out some creative uses with different types of ambient light sources:

Just Cranked up that ISO:

And reluctantly dusted off the flash:

As much as I complain, looking back on these - I’m much happier that I captured all these moments than not because the light wasn’t ideal. That’s usually enough to help me keep going and break through this rut (which I always have at this time of year). I just need to snap out of it and get that creative spark back.

Happy November Everyone!!
