A love affair with Film - and some other stuff / Long Island Photographer - Hello Olivia Photography

I just got 5 rolls back from The Darkroom and I'm pretty much addicted.  While it's expensive & it takes FOREVER to get your scans back (as opposed to the instant gratification of my digital LCD) - the final product is just beyond anything my Canon can put out, in terms of color... and I think clarity too.

Just behold the timeless glory:

THOSE COLORS.  I've been using Ektar 100 (my favorite) along with Portra 160, 400 and Tri-x 400.   I can't put my finger on what it is I love so much about the whole process... but I seriously love it.

Not to sound like one of those pompous a-holes that talks about how much digital photography has "killed the medium" but I can almost understand what those guys are talking about. See the below photo as an example:

Digital with Portra 400

While beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and some may prefer the image on the right - I can't help but love the image on the left more. The colors - the 3 dimensionality of it...gahhhhh.  So in love.

Now I know this is crazy talk, but I'm thisclose to packing up my digital 365 and doing something film related.  1 - it's something new. 2. It will (Hopefully) get me more used to film and experiment more 3. HAVE PHYSICAL PRINTS!

While all this sounds fine and well - I did mention that film + developing are expensive right? Plus it's impossible for me to take indoor photos at this point without a light meter... We'll see what happens!
